1959: Australian Newsprint Mills constructed a large wooden shed on a wharf below the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.
This shed is visible in many photos of the river or gardens between 1959 and 1996.
Huge rolls of paper were brought by barge from Boyer (New Norfolk), stored in the shed, and then trucked to the wharfs for export.
The shed was the largest weatherboard structure in the Southern Hemisphere.
The ANM wharf was used from 1959 to 1986.
The shed and wharf were demolished in 1996.
Today some bollards, stones and wood survive and live on where the shed used to be.
