Wander New Town
A walk around houses, gardens, and streets of New Town. Starting and finishing near places which sell nice coffee and cakes. And antique shops.
Begin near the intersection of Cross Street and New Town Road.
Head south down New Town Road. Pass many shops and businesses.
Past intersection with Pirie Street. Many houses to view.
Stoke Street reserve. A small aesthetic reserve. Road splits into two. Take the left road. Argyle Street.
After a short block come to Stoke Street on the left. Wander down Stoke Street. Many large historic buildings visible. All private. Best to wander up and back down Stoke Street.
Back down Argyle Street. Back past reserve near intersection.
Up New Town Road until Sunnyside Avenue. Go up Sunnyside Avenue until road turns left and becomes Swanston Street.
Many old historic houses in Swanston Street. Many beautiful gardens for viewing. All private.
Left: Maylands Lodge. Stunning garden and house. Guests in restaurant or accommodation can have a close look at the building and garden.
Bishop Street is on right. If you travel down Bishop Street you will see the historic Toll House.
Back into Swanston Street. Travel up Swanston Street until intersection with Cross Street.
Turn left down Cross street. Towards the Mountain. On your right past Mary Ogilvie Homes.
Finish back at New Town Road. New Town Road contains places to absorb time.
